Hassan Syed's Bio:
Hassan Syed is the Founder and CEO of Bir Ventures, a technology incubator that brings ideas to reality. A technologist at heart, he has broad international experience and an impressive track record to convert concepts into successful products. Since 2012, Hassan amalgamated and leads a collaborative network of 85 professionals from diverse backgrounds. Harnessing the power of this network, using the lean startup practices, he has launched three products in the market.
Hassan firmly believes that behind every success story was a good idea, and every good idea needs a robust execution plan. He has brought numerous products to the market from when they were just an idea. The success Hassan brings to the table is his ability to lead teams by creating seamless synergy where everyone is connected to the vision, understands what roles they play, and find personal fulfillment as well. His colleagues describe him as visionary, big-picture thinker, and innovative.
Hassan has broad hands-on technical experience, making him a good problem solver, when leading any technology team. He enjoys working on large databases, where he can convert raw data into business intelligence.
Before starting Bir Ventures, Hassan worked as the Executive Director for Twycross Zoo in the UK, leading Finance, IT, Fund Raising, Project Management and HR. Before that, as the Chief Information Officer at International Species Information System, Hassan led a global team on the Zoological Information Management System (ZIMS) project since its inception in 2002 through to its launch in 2010. ZIMS is a SaaS-based solution for the global aquarium and zoo community, currently in use by 800+ institutions worldwide.
Hassan is always interested in new ideas and always willing to hear about them. He is an advisor to many technology startups and actively participates as a charter member of TiE Minnesota, a global organization of entrepreneurs.

This initiative â Zoological Information Management System (ZIMS) realizes the vision that fundamentally changes how aquariums and zoos manage animal populations worldwide and improve lives of animals in their care. ZIMS is currently in use by 50+ aquariums and zoos worldwide. ZIMS is Software as a Service (SaaS) based product using Microsoft Stack, providing one, single, real-time, animal record on the web. ZIMS Release 1.0 was developed with an investment of ~$5M, valued at $19M by a third party assessment of total earned value.
